The New Avinox M2 and M2S Motors: A New Benchmark for eMTB Power
Electric mountain bike motors have been getting lighter, stronger, and smarter every year, but the new Avinox M2 and M2S drive systems represent one of the biggest performance jumps we have seen yet.
Following the success of the original Avinox M1, Avinox introduced the next-generation M2 and M2S systems in April 2026. The focus is clear: deliver more torque and peak power without turning an eMTB into an excessively heavy bike.
For riders who want full-power eMTB performance while keeping the bike responsive and relatively lightweight, these new motors deserve attention.
Avinox M2S: Up to 150 Nm and 1,500 Watts
The flagship of the new lineup is the Avinox M2S.
In normal assist modes, the M2S can deliver up to 130 Nm of torque, with as much as 150 Nm available in Boost mode.
Peak output can reach an impressive 1,500 watts when the system is paired with a compatible Avinox FP700 or RS800 battery. With certain other Avinox battery configurations, peak output is limited to 1,300 watts.
Despite that output, the M2S weighs approximately 2.59 kg, or about 5.7 pounds.
That combination gives the M2S an exceptional power-to-weight ratio. Riders get the kind of assistance normally associated with much heavier full-power e-bikes while bike manufacturers can still build machines that feel agile and manageable on technical trails.
The Avinox M2 Offers a More Balanced Alternative
Not every rider needs 150 Nm of torque.
The standard Avinox M2 offers up to 110 Nm in regular assist modes and 125 Nm in Boost, with peak power of 1,100 watts.
It weighs approximately 2.65 kg, making it only slightly heavier than the M2S.
For many trail riders, the M2 may actually represent the sweet spot. There is still considerably more assistance available than most riders will regularly need, but the system is designed around smooth, controllable power rather than simply chasing the largest possible output number.
Power Is Only Part of the Story
The impressive torque figures attract most of the attention, but Avinox has worked extensively on how that power is delivered.
Both motors use multiple sensors and Avinox's intelligent assistance software to constantly respond to rider input and terrain.

Auto mode is particularly interesting because the system can continuously adjust assistance based on riding resistance and sensor information.
Instead of constantly switching between assistance modes while climbing changing terrain, riders can allow the system to determine how much support is appropriate.
The result is intended to feel less like turning a motor up and down and more like having additional power automatically available when your legs need it.
A Quieter Motor
High-output eMTB motors can sometimes become noticeably louder as power and cadence increase.
Avinox lists both the M2 and M2S at 45 dBA or less under its test conditions.
The M2S also uses a revised drivetrain and gear design intended to reduce backlash and mechanical noise.
That matters on the trail. A motor can have incredible specifications, but if every climb is accompanied by excessive drivetrain noise, the riding experience suffers.
Avinox is clearly focusing on making the motor powerful without allowing the motor itself to dominate the experience.
New Battery Options
Avinox is also expanding the battery ecosystem surrounding the new motors.
Depending on the bike manufacturer and model, the latest Avinox platform can support several integrated or removable battery configurations.
One of the most interesting examples is the 700Wh FP700 battery used with the M2S in bikes such as the new Amflow PX series.
Avinox also offers removable battery options, including 600Wh and 800Wh configurations.
That gives manufacturers much more flexibility. A lightweight trail eMTB can prioritize a smaller battery and lower overall weight, while an enduro or long-range bike can prioritize capacity.
It also means Avinox is developing into a complete e-bike ecosystem rather than simply supplying a standalone motor.
The Electronics Are Just as Important
Avinox's background in electronics shows throughout the system.
The drive system can integrate a full-color display, wireless handlebar controls, GPS functionality, ride recording, Bluetooth connectivity, and the Avinox Ride app.
The system can also support navigation and route information directly through the bike's display.
One particularly interesting new feature allows compatible systems to use heart-rate data from a Bluetooth heart-rate monitor. The motor can then automatically adjust assistance to help the rider remain within a chosen heart-rate range.
For riders training on an eMTB, that could make assisted riding much more useful as a structured fitness tool.
More Bike Brands Are Adopting Avinox
Perhaps the biggest indication that Avinox is becoming a major player isn't the 1,500-watt number.
It's the number of bicycle manufacturers using the system.
Avinox says it is now working with more than 60 bike-industry partners. Brands publicly associated with Avinox include Amflow, Canyon, Commencal, Mondraker, Pivot, Orbea, Propain, Whyte, Atherton, BH, Rotwild, Unno, and many others.
That is a significant change from the original M1 launch, when the system was primarily associated with Amflow.
Avinox is quickly moving from an interesting alternative motor to an ecosystem being adopted across a large portion of the premium eMTB market.
What Does 150 Nm Actually Mean on the Trail?
Specifications don't always tell you how a bike will ride.
A rider isn't going to use 150 Nm continuously, and maximum power isn't automatically better in every situation.
Where the additional output becomes valuable is during short, steep climbs, technical sections, rapid acceleration, and situations where maintaining momentum would normally require a major burst of rider effort.
The important part is controllability.
If the motor simply delivered maximum power every time the rider touched the pedals, 150 Nm would be difficult to manage on technical terrain.
Modern torque sensing and Avinox's assistance algorithms allow that output to be delivered progressively based on how the rider pedals.
That gives riders access to tremendous power without necessarily sacrificing the natural feeling expected from a premium eMTB.

The M2 is an incremental improvement over the already impressive M1.
The M2S is the major performance leap.
Is the Avinox M2S Too Powerful?
For some riders, probably.
A rider spending most of their time on relatively flat recreational trails doesn't necessarily need 150 Nm.
But that's also missing the point.
The M2S demonstrates that manufacturers no longer necessarily have to choose between building a powerful eMTB and building a relatively lightweight one.
More importantly, maximum output is only available when the rider asks for it.
The rest of the time, the motor can operate like a sophisticated torque-sensing trail system and provide considerably less assistance.
Think of the extra power as reserve capability rather than something that has to be used constantly.
Why the New Avinox System Matters
For years, full-power electric mountain bikes involved a fairly predictable compromise.
More motor power and more battery capacity generally meant more weight.
Lightweight eMTBs improved handling dramatically but typically sacrificed torque and range.
Avinox is attacking that compromise from both directions.
With the M2S producing up to 150 Nm and 1,500 watts from a motor weighing roughly 2.59 kg, bike manufacturers have considerably more freedom when designing the next generation of eMTBs.
The result is already appearing in bikes that combine long-travel suspension, large batteries, enormous motor output, and complete-bike weights that would have been extremely difficult to achieve only a few years ago.
The Bottom Line
The Avinox M2 and M2S aren't simply more powerful versions of the M1. They represent Avinox's attempt to establish an entire next-generation eMTB platform.
The M2 provides an extremely capable full-power system with 125 Nm of maximum torque.
The M2S pushes that concept much further, reaching 150 Nm and as much as 1,500 watts of peak output while remaining exceptionally compact.
Combine that performance with intelligent assistance, an integrated display and app ecosystem, fast-charging battery technology, quieter operation, and rapidly growing manufacturer adoption, and Avinox has become one of the most important motor systems to watch in the e-bike industry.
For riders considering their next high-performance eMTB, the question may no longer be whether Avinox can compete with the established motor manufacturers.
The bigger question is how quickly the rest of the industry responds.
